’Tis the season for society weddings, with two well-known next generations of Australian dynasties to tie the knot on Saturday.
Heiress Amanda Valmorbida of the Melbourne rich-lister family famed for importing Lavazza coffee from Italy, will marry Sydney socialite Tim Holmes a Court on Saturday.
It is three times lucky, with wedding plans cancelled several times during the draconian lockdown.
The long-time couple have been dating for just under a decade and have become a fixture on the Sydney social scene, quietly getting engaged in 2020.
A Sydney contingent was descending on Melbourne on Friday with the nuptials to take place at St Patrick’s Cathedral and a reception to follow at the Valmorbidas’ sprawling Toorak pile. Tim Holmes a Court’s father is related to Robert Holmes a Court, Australia’s first billionaire.
The wealthy Valmorbida family is famed for wholesaling La Gina canned tomatoes and Sirena tuna to Australian in the ’70s. But they became a household name as the family behind importing the Lavazza coffee brand and bringing a party vibe to Flemington’s famed Birdcage with their star-studded marquee and dancefloor.
Patriarch John Valmorbida told Page 13 he was looking forward to the festivities.
“She’s my baby girl and I can’t wait for it. He is a lovely boy, too, and we are all looking forward to it.”
He said family from overseas were travelling to Melbourne for the nuptials after having to cancel several times.
“We never thought it would happen, but we are on. We are celebrating because people are able to get together, but also my little girl.”
Asked if the dancefloor might mirror those heady efforts trackside, Valmorbida laughed.
“We do our best. It comes naturally. We have a lot of fun.”
