As the winds of change blow through TV land, don’t expect one of the ABC’s most coveted roles to be filled any time soon.
Lisa Millar departing the ABC News Breakfast couch leaves a significant hole which the national broadcaster is set to take its time on finding an adequate replacement.
Regular fill-ins Bridget Brennan, the former Indigenous affairs editor, and South Australian reporter Emma Rebellato are expected to share the role next to Michael Rowland for the remainder of the year.
But they are no certainty to get the much sought after gig which Millar, 55, had done impressively for five years after replacing Virginia Trioli.
Millar isn’t leaving the ABC but more scaling back to concentrate on making TV programs Back Road and Muster Dogs, as well as new projects.
News Breakfast is a much-loved show by many with Gold Logie nominee Tony Armstrong crediting getting a start there as a sports presenter as the key to his recent success.
The ABC has a number of roles to fill with veterans Phillip Adams, Paul Barry and Media Watch executive producer Tim Latham all stepping down.
