Non-binary fashion influencer Deni Todorovic has resurfaced on social media to “vehemently apologise” for their actions during a difficult public and private time.
Todorovic, who has been in a NSW hospital being treated for their mental health battle, said they found no joy in letting down their community.
The self-described “author, broadcaster, educator, tranny, and wog” lasted less than 24 hours at Australian Fashion Week after clashing with Jetstar staff in Melbourne, being turned away from an off-site fashion show, then hit with a restraining order by a former partner and making public rants about brands and former colleagues.
“It’s been a minute. 4 weeks to be precise,’’ Todorovic began.
“For the past month I have been working hard to sit in the GREY. Minus Christian (Grey) to overhaul what has been an honest, overwhelming and intimate mental health battle.
“Suicide statistics in the LGBTQIA+ community are real and when I’m ready I will share my story in full. Here with you all. Honestly. As I always have.”
Todorovic said they were grateful for the support during a confronting period where “I sidelined deep and personal traumas and abuse that went unspoken, untreated and ignored. Largely by me”.
“I would like to take this opportunity to vehemently apologise to all of my darlings who were impacted by my actions and comments in recent weeks,’’ they wrote.
“I will continue to apologise to people both privately and publicly and have been grateful to receive acceptance empathy, apologies and support and love in return.
“For those of you who have been here since day one, you know who I am and how I speak and what I stand for and it goes without saying that the past month and even before, is in no way a holistic reflection of the goals I set out to achieve. Which were always to inform and inspire.”
Todorovic, 35, continued: “I found no joy in letting down my community, brand partners and peers who helped champion my career and I look forward to privately and genuinely mending those relationships — if they so wish to do so. However I stand by everything I said. I do acknowledge that often my delivery was off. Like Kanye off. Way off. And at times just plain mean. Hurt people hurt people etc thank you BRAVO!”
Todorovic mentioned those who have helped their healing over the past month.
“Thanks to the unrelenting support from health care professionals, particularly the whole team at the impeccable Shellharbour Hospital, NSW mental health and the support of my family at the Barwon Health Foundation in Geelong, Brunswick and Coburg, first responders and even the police.
“I have committed to what I know will be a lifelong battle to prioritise and recognise when I need to put myself first. Which is always but particularly now.
“By following my life’s passions, I became a public figure and whilst that is both a privilege and at times a curse, I entirely understand that with that, comes responsibility and consequences for things I say and more importantly I do.”
