As first reported in this column, blockbuster star Liam Neeson will soon be careering around town filming thriller Blacklight.

Written, directed and produced by Ozark co-creator Mark Williams, Neeson plays Travis Block, a “troubled off-the-books fixer for the FBI, tasked with pulling undercover agents out of dangerous situations.”

Williams recently directed the 68-year-old Northern Irish actor in thriller, Honest Thief, with Australia’s Jai Courtney.

Blacklight is a boost for our film and TV industry, on the ropes because of coronavirus restrictions.

Bringing more than 500 local jobs for cast and crew for the local film sector, Blacklight is one of several productions to get off the ground.

Filming will start at the Melbourne Convention Centre next week, with Jeff’s Shed turned into a backlot.

Utilising the venue’s enormous space was floated during a “hackathon” called Unconventional Ideas for the Melbourne Convention Centre in August.

Meanwhile, the ABC announced the final Jack Irish series starring Guy Pearce.

The Newsreader will also commence filming in Melbourne soon. The new Aunty drama series created by Michael Lucas, the co-creator of Five Bedrooms, follows “the unlikely bond between a young TV reporter and a ‘difficult’ female newsreader.”

Zac Efron, another Hollywood star to call Down Under home during the pandemic, will produce and star in Stan survival thriller, Gold, to begin filming in South Australia.

The High School Musical heartthrob has been riding out restrictions in Byron Bay with his local waitress girlfriend Vanessa Valladares.

Elsewhere, the “production pause” has ended on Netflix drama, Clickbait, starring Adrien Grenier.

Production is resuming at Dockland Studios and that’s just the start. Watch this space.
