After making a sizeable $100m NGV donation this week, here’s how the billionaire trucking magnate Lindsay Fox will be celebrating his birthday.

Billionaire trucking magnate Lindsay Fox is planning another epic birthday celebration on the azure seas with 450 powerful guests.

Mr Fox, who with wife Paula, announced a $100 million donation to the NGV Contemporary earlier this week, said party planning is already underway.

“I’m planning my birthday party in September,” Mr Fox told Page 13.

“I have chartered a ship and I’m taking 450 people from all over the world — 65 per cent from Australia, 15 per cent from the US, 10 per cent from South East Asia, and 10 per cent from Europe — with me. In all cases, they’ll be leaders of industry, or country.”

Asked who the cruise ship entertainer might be, Fox, and three of his children sang in harmony: “It’s a secret.”

Mr Fox said the $100 million gift for the new gallery, named the Fox NGV Contemporary, is about creating a legacy for the future.

“At the age of 85, you become aware that you must count the time you have left,” he said. “We’ve planted the seed at the gallery through my wife’s good wishes, and my children will all be here to support how those seeds turn into trees. That, to me, is very important.”

Mr Fox joked the NGV asked his Paula for the money, and his only role was to sign the cheque.

“My wife is a believer,” he said.

“She is a marvellous wife, and a marvellous mother who can’t say no to a charitable cause.

“I’ve stopped getting letters,” Mr Fox said laughing.

“They all come to Paula. The community is smart. They know where to tap the tank.”
