Academy Award winner Natalie Portman will bring Hollywood glamour to the National Gallery of Victoria’s prestigious annual gala.
Portman, 37, will be the special guest of the gallery and Visit Victoria at the black tie fundraiser next Saturday, which will also celebrate the opening of the Escher X Nendo: Between Two Worlds exhibition.
Portman, who is holidaying in Australia with her family, said she was delighted to be part of the event which celebrates art, fashion and culture and is Melbourne’s answer to New York’s famed Met Gala.

“I am in love with Australia and having the best time being here,” Portman said. “The people are so lovely, the nature is breathtaking, and the culture is astonishing.
“I’m so excited to be back for the NGV Gala to celebrate the great creative destination of Melbourne.”
Visit Victoria Chief Executive Officer Peter Bingeman said: “A celebration of fine art and fashion, the NGV Gala is an event that talks to the best of Melbourne. We are thrilled to have Natalie Portman joining us this year, with Visit Victoria looking forward to welcoming her to our stylish and sophisticated city.”
The NGV Gala is fast becoming one of the must attend and most elegant events on the Melbourne social calendar. Last year Nicole Kidman was the special guest.
Portman is one of Hollywood’s most respected actors. She won the Best Actress Academy Award in 2011 for her role as Nina in Black Swan and starred alongside Australia’s Chris Hemsworth in Thor and Thor: The Dark World.
She played Padme in Star Wars: Episode 1 — The Phantom Menace, Star Wars: Episode 2 — Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith and portrayed Jackie Kennedy in the 2016 film Jackie. Her latest film is Vox Lux.
Portman is married to French ballet dancer Benjamin Millepied, who she met while filming Black Swan, with whom she has two children, Aleph and Amalia.
The face of the Miss Dior fragrance, Portman will wear Christian Dior to the gala.
Other guests include Troye Sivan, Victoria Lee, Subah Koj, Jessica Gomes, Asher Keddie, Lily Sullivan, Megan Washington and Olympia Valance.
