MoMA at NGV exhibition marks 100,000th visit after huge first month
NEW York’s finest contemporary art is proving a huge tourism drawcard, with the MoMA at NGV exhibition notching up 100,000 visits in just a month.

The South Melbourne youngster was welcomed as the 100,000th visitor to the MoMA at NGV exhibition at NGV International - a remarkable milestone considering the exhibition has only been on for a month.
NGV director Tony Ellwood said the reaction to the show had been “extrordinary”.

Only two other Melbourne Winter Masterpieces shows have surpassed it for first month attendance - The Impressionists (2004) and Van Gogh and the Seasons (2017).
MoMA at NGV, a Melbourne exclusive, features more 230 modern and contemporary works from New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
Unlike the record-breaking Van Gogh, MoMA at NGV features multiple artists.
But Mr Ellwood said big audiences for the MoMA exhibition - a quarter of whom are coming from outside Victoria - suggested “people are engaged and interested in the art of now ... our audience doesn’t just want a safe diet”.
MoMA at NGV: 130 Years of Modern and Contemporary Art is at NGV International (St Kilda Rd) until October 7.
