Gillon McLachlan celebrates milestone 50th birthday

Outgoing AFL boss Gillon McLachlan has grown a few grey hairs this week due to score review changes, leading him to joke about ageing from 49 to 150 in a week when asked about his birthday.

Outgoing AFL boss Gillon McLachlan marked a significant milestone earlier this month.

It was his 50th birthday which happened to fall when he was on the job in Albury.

“I was a bit lucky a few people came up and surprised me so we had a dinner,’’ McLachlan said.

“I’m hopeful next year with a bit of time we can do something as a family and have a big party next year.”

McLachlan may have grown a few extra grey hairs over the past week — think score review — but he’s feeling good.

His shoulder was also banged up courtesy of an old polo injury but the sling will come off in two weeks.

“I’m feeling ok about it,’’ he said of the big five-o.

“Bit greyer, wiser, older, but I’m coping ok.”

“I’ve gone from 49 to 150,’’ he laughed.

“It just takes a long time (with a shoulder). It’s a tendon, it’s how long they take to knit.”

McLachlan stepped out for the Moulin Rouge premiere on Thursday night with Laura Kane, the acting general manager of footy operations.

They were sitting in prime position at The Regent Theatre nearby to Saints coach Ross Lyon.
