Former Demons star Russell Robertson has hit back at commentator Kane Cornes, who labelled Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin’s comments about an opposition player as disrespectful.
Cornes said he was angry that Goodwin referenced Hawthorn tagger Finn Maginness as someone who “doesn’t want the ball” after he shut down Melbourne’s Clayton Oliver on Sunday.
Robertson said Cornes was out of line.
“Fact is in that game, Finn Macgginess (sic) didn’t want the ball, he was intent on purely stopping a far superior player in Clarry,’’ Robertson wrote on Facebook.
“He won’t always be like that. Goody called it as it was on the day. As a player I’d want my coaches to back his players, so good on you Simon Goodwin and good on you Sam Mitchell... back ’em in.
“Everybody else can have their opinion but no one gives a s--- what you think especially paid millions to shoot off at the mouth ex players. The worlds gone crazy.. Out of line... god get over yourself mate. Also I’m aware that no one gives a s... about my opinion either now (sic) would Kane, I’m nowhere to him but seriously ... out of line...”
Cornes, a former tagger himself at Port Adelaide, said on SEN: “Do you know what I’m angry about? Simon Goodwin and his takedown of the tagging fraternity.
“I can’t believe it. He said that my man Finn Maginness does not want to get the ball. He had one less possession than Clayton Oliver!
“These midfielders cannot cope, they sook it up when there’s any attention that has been put to them.
“The minute they get one tag for the year they can’t handle it and the opposition coach is forced to come out and whack Finn Maginness. Extraordinary.”
Bounce hosts test their skills
Fox Footy’s Bounce jokesters Jason Dunstall, Andrew Gaze, Cam Mooney and Ben Dixon visited the cop shop this week — the Victoria Police Academy.
They first had to test their concentration through a thorough theory session before putting their knowledge through ultimate skill tests, donning bullet-proof vests and competing in a series of physical challenges.
There was a clear winner and a very clear loser, to be unveiled on the “Yesterday’s Heroes” challenge on Bounce this Sunday after the footy on Fox Footy.
