Sales of CHOttie Brett Sutton merchandise created lockdown loco.
Mugs, throws, and hoodies were emblazoned with the Victorian chief health officer’s face last year.
Then came the 2021 Sutton calendar, featuring the silver-haired Buddhist doctor in different photographs, some masked up.
Dr January and Dr June are the most desired months.
The good doctor replied to the loyal fan who compiled the calendar: “Thank yous should go to you and everyone brave enough to purchase a calendar … although the surprise at anyone buying any merch of me continues.”
The Dreamboat Diaries feature Sutton in various guises, even as a caped hero. Melanie Costabile and Derek Wood say they were inspired by The Pickwick Papers.
“The Dreamboat Diaries not only made people smile amid the anxiety and worry but allowed them to disconnect for a few moments from the current dystopia and dabble in a little daydreaming,” says the foreword.
Costabile found herself lonely and at a loss during the lockdown. She said her love of Dr Sutton united her with like-minded women and helped get her through the pandemic.
A quote from the book says “the only thing to lighten Mel’s mood, was that silver-haired fox, that Dr Dreamboat of the sacred hotness, commanding that podium”.
