Jake Edwards emerges from ‘lifesaving’ rehab

Married At First Sight groom Jake Edwards has revealed the career ending head injuries he suffered after being king hit while out on South Wharf.

The former AFL footballer said he was left unconscious for two minutes in a brutal attack in 2017, copping a broken nose, stitches to the head and fractured ribs.

Walking home after celebrating his 100th game in the VFL, Edwards said he was king hit in a “coward, unprovoked attack.”

Little did Edwards know it would be the last football match of his career.

“I was involved in an unprovoked assault in the city as I was leaving to go home,” he posted.

“I was king hit from behind and knocked clean out. I was then beaten by three other men. I suffered a broken nose, stitches and I was knocked out for almost two minutes.”

Edwards said he was speaking out about his injuries in an effort to raise awareness about the dangers of alcohol and violence.

He stressed the need to look after your mates when out drinking.

“Alcohol causes more damage than any other drug and the men who assaulted me that night, I am sure they wish they had their time again.”
