Bayside mums and their kids were startled when a car hit a pole and flipped over outside exclusive Haileybury College.
The freak accident happened in the pick-up zone where parents pick up their children at staggered times during the COVID-19 crisis.
Thankfully no one was hurt but the driver, Ali Tiley, the wife of Tennis Australia boss Craig Tiley was taken to the Alfred Hospital by paramedics who arrived at the scene just after the crash at 3.10pm last Wednesday.
Tiley told Page 13 this week she “was okay” and it is understood there was a medical concern.
Craig Tiley, who is originally from South Africa, and his Chicago-born wife have three children, at the elite school.
Craig Tiley played professional tennis and he and Ali are among several sporting greats and their wives and partners whose kids go to Haileybury.
Think the Judds, the Crawfords and former Essendon captain Matthew Lloyd, who is also head footy coach at the school.
Students were waiting under marquees for pick up on the school oval when the accident happened, with the car landing on its roof with its wheels spinning.
One parent told Page 13 the car suddenly accelerated and hit a pole before flipping over.
“It was a complete freak event and just so very lucky no one was seriously injured,” she said.
It’s been all the chatter this week at the school gates in what’s known as the Bayside bubble.
This includes APS schools Haileybury, Brighton Grammar, Firbank and Caulfield Grammar just scrapping in.
The bubble has more factions than the Labor Party.
The “ra-ra brigade” is seen outside the Firbank gates in Jaggad athleisure wear and puffer jackets and smiling with trout pouts.
The “dual-incomers” come in a late rush at Brighton Grammar in Carla Zampatti suits with their iPhones pressed to their ears.
On the fringe are the “outliers” from Hampton-O
Hampton-O?
One school mum said this was because when someone says they live in Hampton, the Brighton brigade say, “Oh.”
Even Brendan Fevola weighed in on the Bayside bubble this week. “Bayside don’t really care too much about other people,” Fevola said on Fox FM’s Fifi, Fev and Byron.
“The best thing about Brighton is they don’t care and give me doughnuts.”
Have fun at the Firbank gates with that one Fev!
