An anonymous Instagram account is firing shots at Melbourne’s toxic hospitality scene, taking no prisoners with its snarky memes and delicious gossip.

Anonymous Instagram account Anchovy Toast is taking aim at Melbourne’s toxic hospitality scene with its loaded memes and hot gossip.

It’s no secret Melbourne’s hospo scene is a hell’s kitchen.

Not so much the oil, or grime lingering on the frypans.

The handsy, bullying, scamming and downright gross behaviours of insert: head chefs/restaurant owners/bar managers and even small-fry staff has a more potent stench.

The #metoo movement was sadly kept well out of our kitchens.

Stories of head chefs burning the hands of tardy waiters with heat lamps have simmered down.

Cryptic posts are Anchovy’s game.

Some of these chefs are now at our three-hatted restaurants but gross underpayments and lechy and downright menacing behaviours are still at boiling point.

Many female chefs have wanted to speak up about the many issues they face but have found themselves ostracised.

A big name like George Calombaris, who now humbly slaves away at his Hellenic House Project, cops the brunt as the poster child for “wage theft.”

If you’re offended, it’s about you.

Its like CelebSpellcheck, just tastier.

But many of his peers are still getting away with it.

Enter Anchovy Toast, an anonymous Instagram page in the same vein as CelebSpellcheck, taking no prisoners on who to watch out for with delicious, snarky memes.

This week the page took it one step further saying “our industry celebrates abusers with no cares for the people they’ve hurt and continue to hurt as long as they receive accolades and attention.

“It takes guts for people to speak out because when they do they are usually ridiculed and ostracised.”

So, be warned. Bad behaviours in the kitchen are no longer a back burner issue.
