Star-studded line-up performs at FireAid benefit concert in Los Angeles

Hollywood’s most popular performers are joining forces to put on a star-studded show today, with some wild surprises.

Dave Grohl reunites with Nirvana for Fire Aid concert

Hollywood’s biggest musicians are hosting a fire aid benefit concert in the heart of Los Angeles today.

Just three weeks after several wildfires broke out across different regions in California, destroying thousands of homes, A-list performers have signed on to help raise funds for those affected by putting on star-studded benefit.

The biggest surprise of the night was Dave Grohl reuniting with Nirvana for the first time in more than half a decade to perform together.

The surviving members of Nirvana, who weren’t part of the official FireAid bill, took the stage to perform with vocalists including St. Vincent, Kim Gordon, Joan Jett and Violet Grohl, the 18-year-old daughter of Grohl.

Billie Eilish is set to perform her own set later in the show.

Meanwhile, it was Rock band Green Day who kicked off the show with their stirring song Last Night on Earth, where they were joined by superstar Billie Eilish for a surprise duet.

“Los Angeles... You are still alive,” frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said.

“This is California! And we’re all in this together. From the bottom of our hearts, we love you LA, and we’ve got your back no matter what.”

And yet another surprise early on, with Dr Dre showing up unannounced to sing alongside Anderson .Paak.

The rapper had a special song for the crowd, launching into his (very fitting for the occasion) 1995 hit with Tupac, California Love.

Legends including Earth, Wind & Fire then took to the stage performing a rousing rendition of their iconic smash hit, September, before Gwen Stefani returned to the stage with No Doubt.

The group reformed for the one off charity show, belting out their hits like Just A Girl and Don’t Speak to a screaming audience.

“I’m so happy to be here. Can we keep this energy going forever?” said Katy Perry as she took to the stage after No Doubt to peform some of her biggest hits. “This is what makes us human. This is humanity, this is love, and this is kindness. I have been so inspired by how quickly this organised by our community. California I am so proud.”

It was a pop lover’s dream at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, with Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo joining the likes of Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder and Sting on the line-up. Jelly Roll, Earth, Wind & Fire, Lil Baby, Peso Pluma and Tate McRae all on the bill.

Green Day performed at the Kia Forum up the road from the Dome, where Alanis Morissette, Pink, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stevie Nicks, No Doubt, Anderson .Paak, Dave Matthews & John Mayer, Dawes, Graham Nash, John Fogerty, Joni Mitchell, Stephen Stills and The Black Crowes all hit the stage.

In the US, the event is being live streamed across most streaming platforms, including Netflix and Disney+, while in Australia, locals can tune in via FireAid’s live stream on YouTube.

We’ll also bring you key highlights and updates here when it kicks off at 2pm AEDT today.

Money raised as part of the FireAid benefit concert, as well as direct donations made via the website, will be distributed by Annenberg Foundation – a charity that provides support to non-profit organisations.
