Organisers of popular Australian music festival Groovin the Moo today announced that the festival won’t go ahead this year – but they insist it will be back.

The annual music festival has been held primarily across regional areas since 2005, attracting local and international headliners.

The 2024 festival was cancelled in February last year, with organisers citing “insufficient ticket sales”.

Today, organisers confirmed it wouldn’t return this year.

“Groovin the Moo won’t be happening in 2025, while we work on finding the most sustainable model for Australia’s most loved regional touring festival,” read a post on the festival’s social media accounts.

We will really miss seeing the smiling faces of all our beloved Moo Crew – and that means YOU!”

The news comes days after another giant of the Australian music festival scene, Splendour in the Grass, announced they wouldn’t be going ahead this year either.

In a post to the festival’s social media accounts last week, organisers revealed that Splendour “needs a little more time to recharge and we won’t be back this year.”

Think of it as a breather so we can come back even bigger and better when the time is right,” they wrote.

Once a titan of the Australian music festival circuit, Splendour had had a disastrous few years, with last year’s festival cancelled just days after tickets went on sale.

In recent months, Australian festivals including You & Me, Spilt Milk, The Birdsville Big Red Bash and Harvest Rock have all announced cancellations.
