Moana Hope has spoken of her pride, joy and inspiration after becoming a mother last year.
The former AFLW star says she and wife Isabella Carlstrom, who gave birth in November, are still in a baby bliss bubble with their daughter Svea.
“The greatest thing that’s ever happened to me would be Svea,’’ Hope said.
“2020 was crazy but no matter what this year throws up we’re super blessed to be where we are.”
The couple conceived their first child via IVF using a sperm donor.
Hope, who is one of 14 children and cares for her sister Vinny, wants to carry their next child this year and has changed her views on pregnancy after their experience.
“I’m so proud of Belle, she’s been through the wars with recovery,’’ she said.
“It’s unbelievable. I remember when Belle was in labour, I thought I’m going to get preggers soon as well. I said I’m asking for the epidural, I don’t care.
“Belle never got it and she birthed without pain relief and it was just so inspiring. I was so inspired by Belle and once Svea was born I said, ‘you know what I’m going to give it a go’.
“She inspired me what she went through with the labour, what a woman’s body can do is just amazing. Fingers crossed I’ve got the Hope fertility gene.”
Carlstrom had to undergo emergency placenta surgery last week but managed to be at a modelling shoot on Friday. Hope said the best thing they did was pack some Hydralyte in their hospital bag to aid in Carlstrom’s recovery and rehydration from breastfeeding.
Hope has had stints at Collingwood and North Melbourne and hasn’t given up on playing footy again.
“I think a child is the greatest gift in life,’’ she said.
“For me, a child doesn’t stop you from doing what you want to do. I feel so much more motivated to do so many more things in life. I would love to run through a banner with kids in my arms.”
