MY Kitchen Rules fried the launch of The Voice last night. Seven’s cooking show surged to 1.349 million viewers across the five capital cities to easily beat Nine’s talent show.
The Voice, with new coach Joe Jonas alongside Boy George, Delta Goodrem and Kelly Rowland, averaged 1.029 million.

The Voice’s launch figure was down 17 per cent compared to last year’s 1.18 million and less than half the figure the first season of The Voice (2.19 million) launched to in 2012.
Seven’s cooking show clearly benefited from the absence of Married at First Sight on Nine and it didn’t hurt that it was paired with the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony.
CRICKET DEAL IS JUST THE CHANGE WE NEED
Seven’s telecast of the closing ceremony, which was widely criticised on social media averaged 1.141 million viewers.
Viewers took to Twitter to describe the closing ceremony as “cringeworthy”, a “poorly performed high school recital” and “arguably the most embarrassing night in Australia’s cultural history”.
Seven’s on-air promotions for My Kitchen Rules have been pumping up the controversy promising that one team will be thrown off the show in coming episodes.
Ten’s 7pm edition of The Sunday Project averaged 405,000 viewers against My Kitchen Rules and The Voice.
Ten’s Bachelor in Paradise, which screened at 7.30pm averaged 629,000.
