MELBOURNE is set to come alive with Asian fervour as Chinese New Year festivities light up the city.
The city will celebrate the Year of the Dog across 10 days through a series of colourful events including a new year’s countdown.

Celebrations will conclude on February 25 with a closing ceremony that will feature 200 Chinese square dancers in a 90-minute competition, and a lantern parade with more than 300 people.
Thomas Ling, chairman of festival organiser CNY United, said the event would offer something for everyone.
He said the festival’s three activity centres were destined to bring “loads of tradition, performance and learning opportunities for the kids, their family and friends”.
