Kylie Minogue’s surprise visit to rural Victoria after doing hotel quarantine in secret

Kylie Minogue has made a surprise visit to regional Victoria after doing a secret 14-day hotel quarantine with no special treatment.

Superstar Kylie Minogue has made a shock appearance in country Victoria.

The pop princess was photographed moments before she was due to appear at a concert in Mallacoota, introducing headliner James Reyne.

The sighting confirmed rumours Minogue had slipped quietly back into Melbourne earlier this month after undertaking a 14-day hotel quarantine.

Minogue flew to Mallacoota where Reyne headlined the final Sounds Better Together series of gigs to mark the return of live music in Victoria.

The superstar was spotted in Dubai just before New Year’s Eve, then flew into Melbourne.

Michael Gudinski, Minogue’s long term promoter and the man who signed her to her first record deal in 1987, said the singer received no special treatment.

“She’s been here a few weeks, she’s ecstatic to be home with her family,” Gudinski said.

“She’s vibing to be home, she’s going to stay in Australia for a while. There’s no talk of her doing any live shows, but she’s really impressed with the way we’ve been getting live music back in Victoria. She wanted to come up here especially and say a few words to encourage Mallacoota and the Australian music industry and obviously she’s very close to James.”

Minogue and singer Mia Wray came on stage to dance to Reyne’s Australian Crawl hit The Boys Light Up.

“I’ve been watching from overseas, I’ve just arrived back home in Australia, I’m so so happy and grateful to be here in Mallacoota,” Minogue said. “You can feel the love.”

After being cleared from quarantine she has been spending time with her family for the last fortnight, only spotted once, at Richmond’s Cafe Uzul on January 19.

Minogue spent Christmas in the UK before heading to Australia.

The singer’s management have not commented on her personal trip home, however London’s heavy COVID toll means the city remains in lockdown and their live music industry is on hold.

Last year the superstar managed to record and promote her No. 1 album Disco from her London home – she told the BBC this month she hasn’t ruled out more remote recording this year, stating “that’s not to say I might not get near a microphone again.”

The singer’s close friend and former PA, Leanne Woolrich, married James Reyne in 2017 – Minogue attended the wedding.

The Mallacoota concert also featured Vika and Linda, Mia Wray and Jon Stevens, who was the last minute replacement for Daryl Braithwaite, who went into hospital on Thursday night.

The singer is said to be recovering well and thanked fans for their best wishes on his social media yesterday.
