Karl Stefanovic was remaining tight-lipped on the explosive video of his confrontation with Michael Clarke as he made an appearance at the Australian Open.

Stefanovic and new Today co-host Sarah Abo fronted up for drinks with their colleagues, a pre-arranged event by Channel 9 to celebration their new partnership.

Stefanovic smiled and said: “You know what the answer is going to be” when asked about the incident involved his wife and sister in law in Noosa.

He was closely minded by Nine publicity but was in good spirits as he was warmly greeted by fans and guests.

He mingled with media, Australian Open boss Craig Tiley and former tennis ace turned politician Sam Groth.

He was staying to watch Novak Djokovic on Rod Laver Arena before broadcasting from the Open on Friday morning and flying back to Sydney.

“Melbourne audiences are real students on television and we love coming here,” he said.

Stefanovic and co-host Sarah Abo avoided mentioning the wild fracas while reporting on the day’s major headlines on the Today show on Thursday.

Dramatic footage surfaced of Stefanovic in a heated exchange with Clarke, in which the Australian cricket legend was slapped across the face by his girlfriend and accused of cheating.

The fight featured on the early news bulletin over on Channel 7’s Sunrise where Edwina Bartholomew gave a descriptive rundown of the incident about 5.30am.

It was later discussed by hosts David Koch and Natalie Barr with entertainment reporter Peter Ford.

Ford said Stefanovic and his girlfriend were “innocently caught up” in the scandal.

In the extraordinary showdown in Noosa on January 10, Stefanovic, Clarke and their partners — sisters Jade and Jasmine Yarbrough — were involved in a blow-up, which was filmed by a bystander.

It’s understood Clarke’s celebrity fashion designer ex-girlfriend Pip Edwards and Jade had been in contact, sparking the confrontation between Clarke and Jade.

The footage shows a shirtless Clarke limping in a park surrounded by a group who are trying to calm the situation, while a furious Jade screams at him then slaps him across the face.

“You f--ked her on December 17 … You f--ked her, you’re a f--king dog,” Jade screams.

Clarke responds: “Baby you’re wrong, you’re wrong.”

The bystander who filmed the fight said he was first alerted to the drama when he spotted Clarke and Stefanovic in an argument.

Clarke said: “I accept full responsibility for this altercation and am shattered by my actions”.
