CATE Blanchett has switched from style queen to fun mum in a flash, leaving the Armani gowns and the prestigious Venice Film Festival behind to get silly with Jack Black at the premiere of The House With a Clock in its Walls in London.
Blanchett’s son, Ignatius, was in tow as mum launched the movie, based on the spooky kids’ novel.
The movie follows a boy sent to live with his mysterious uncle, a warlock played by Black, in a strange old house. Blanchett is the good witch who lives next door.

JACK BLACK WAS BORN TO PLAY A 16-YEAR-OLD GIRL
At the premiere, Blanchett called the movie both “silly and serious”, while US funnyman Black said he “can’t stop bragging” about starring in a movie with the Aussie Oscar winner.
Director Eli Roth calls the unlikely duo “a dream team”, but Black admitted he was initially terrified of working with Blanchett.
“I was scared because she’s one of my favourite actors — she might be the best actor alive, male or female. I was like, ‘I’m not good enough to share the screen with her. She’s gonna be rolling her eyes ’. But it couldn’t have been further from the truth. She was jazzed to be working with me, too. We had a blast.
“I’ve told my agent that I’m only making Cate Blanchett movies from now on.”
Roth says House With a Clock shows “how much fun Cate is when she decides to play” and the Aussie star has been playing a lot lately — her most recent roles seeing her stage a heist with Sandra Bullock in Ocean’s Eight and take the superhero battle to Chris Hemsworth in Thor: Ragnarok.
The countdown to the September 20 school holiday release of The House With a Clock in its Walls is on.
