Aussie chart topper Tones and I has revealed she suffered a miscarriage on the eve of the biggest show of her career.
The Dance Monkey singer, who hails from Melbourne’s Mornington Peninsula, took to social media on Tuesday to share the devastating blow, recalling how doctors advised that she pull the pin on the sold out November 9 gig at Rod Laver Arena.
In a lengthy post to Instagram, Tones, whose real name is Toni Watson, said she was in the middle of a final dress rehearsal with “30 choir, 30 dancers and 50 crew” - less than 24 hours before fans were due to pour into the arena - when she felt “blood running down” her legs.
“Usually an awkward but manageable situation especially since this was a rehearsal and not a show, except … I was 9 weeks pregnant,” Tones wrote alongside a two-minute clip.
“It was definitely something I wasn’t planning on telling people and I was completely prepared to resort back to the baggy jumpers and pants I was once known for.
“... I was having a miscarriage the night before the biggest show of my career.”
The concerned star and husband Jimmy Bedd, who married in a stunning Bali ceremony back in 2023, rushed to a nearby hospital where she was admitted for the night.
“The pain started to kick in and after not sleeping that night I was told I was having a miscarriage,” Tones wrote, adding that doctors later advised her to postpone the show.
The Fly Away hitmaker said she did not condone ignoring medical advice but that she was determined to play the sold out show as part of her self-titled tour.
“I knew there was no way I could let everyone down,” she said, returning to the iconic Melbourne arena on show day for a meet and greet with fans.
“Off stage felt like a blur but as soon as I stepped on stage, I felt carried, it was unlike any other show I have ever performed, I was lifted by my family on and off stage who knew nothing. I told three people that night and let the energy of everyone else carry me through that night.”
Thanking her team, Tones described the gig – where Olympian Raygun made a surprise appearance on stage – as one of her “biggest triumphs and saddest moments”.
“After the show I went back to the hospital where the next morning the surgery was completed.”
Selling Sunset star Chrishell Staus singer Casey Donovan and designer Lana Wilkinson were among the thousands of well wishers who took to the comment section to offer their support.
