I’m a Celeb host Julia Morris still hopeful the show will be filmed in South Africa, despite pandemic

As the pandemic continues to wreck havoc on Australia’s reality TV filming schedules, I’m A Celeb host and newly-unmasked singer Julia Morris is revealing the show’s unexpected back-up plan. But it’s set to come at a price.

Comedian and TV host Julia Morris says she is still hopeful of filming I’m A Celebrity. Get Me Out of Here! in South Africa next year.

The show is reportedly looking to film in a remote part of NSW near Murwillumbah which is normally used by the UK series.

“I know there are a number of dates in place and planes are still flying out of Australia,” Morris said.

“The interesting thing from what I understand is that it’s … four times the cost to do it in Australia. Our production partners are in South Africa and we make a big difference to the Kruger National Park financially.

“It’s difficult to know how that’s going to roll out if we don’t go.

“It can be done, the doctor (Chris Brown) and I are literally waiting on tenterhooks to find out where we’re going. We’re desperate to return to our beloved South Africa but we’ll go wherever they want and we’re just excited they’re going to make the show in 2021.”

Morris is used to bringing the comedy but it was no laughing matter having to lie to keep secret her appearance on The Masked Singer.

Unveiled on Tuesday night as the kitten, she said she even had to fib to a doctor after hurting her back while performing in the costume.

“I couldn’t even tell him the truth,’’ Morris said.

“I’m the biggest liar in the business.

“I told him I was dressed as a showgirl making jungle promos. My life is so weird people don’t even think to question it.

“I was gaslighting the judges and (host) Osher (Gunsberg) pretty much the whole way through.

“I could be home in 15 minutes so I did a live Instagram on The Bachelor that was subtle and made them think there’s no way they could have made it home.

“Of course in stage four lockdown the streets were empty so I was home in a whisker.”

Morris is also good friends with panellist Urzila Carlson and the pair would go on walks but wouldn’t mention work.

“I’m in so much trouble with Urzila, she said to my face — you lied,’’ Morris said.

“A mission is a tricky thing in the lying world.

“We talked about lockdown, the kids, having to go into quarantine when she got back to New Zealand.

“She took it in good spirits but I cut through. I have drawn first blood, this will not be the end of it.”
