Gary Rohan speaks out against ‘vicious’ rumours about his personal life

Geelong star Gary Rohan has shot down a fresh round of rumours about his personal life which linked him to a teammate’s partner.

Geelong stars Gary Rohan and Lachie Henderson have slammed vicious rumours about their private lives.

Rohan, who went through a messy split with Amie last year, is believed to have been at the centre of the latest gossip circling linking him with teammate Lachie Henderson’s partner Rebecca Klodinsky.

Rohan hit back: “I can handle rumours about myself, and have been dealt my fair share in the last 12 months. But it’s crossing the line when you start rumours in light of someone’s personal circumstances. This needs to be called out. No one has any idea what is going on in someone else’s personal life, and people need to be better at being considerate of this. With another lockdown on the horizon, let’s get around each other and support one another. You never know when someone needs your support. Be better.”

Soon after Rohan posted, Henderson, who was out of the side on Thursday night against Fremantle, supported the sentiments.

The couple were married for four years.

Henderson wrote: “Love ya @garyrohan16. I second your comments mate “lets get around each other and support one another”. There is enough going on in his world at the moment.

Vicious rumours that are funny to people don’t help at all. Making things up that are completely false in every way can hurt a lot. Be kind and realise you just never know what each individual is dealing with. You just never know in that moment what that one person has on their plate.”

Klodinsky, owner and designer of the swimwear brand IIXIIST, said the rumours were untrue and hurtful.

“I feel like Covid induces boredom and this is a result of that,” she said. “Lachie and I are in a very happy place. We are very much together.”

She and Henderson saw a screenshot of the rumour on social media on Thursday.

“I woke up this morning, and Lach was like, ‘This (rumour) has got legs … should I say something?’ I said, ‘Yes, you’ve got to say something against these f---ing idiots.’

“It’s hurtful for everyone,” Klodinsky said. “It would be a completely different story if the internet didn’t exist and these people had to say it to the three of us.”

Rohan has been seeing Madi Bennett following his split from Amie, the mother of his two daughters. He was at the centre of hub rumours last year that his new relationship had caused tension with Cats teammate Tom Hawkins.

In May he was embracing his two girls, Bella and Sadie, and giving Bennett a kiss while celebrating his 150th game milestone.

Rohan had previously refused to address his romantic life before reports emerged that the new woman in his life was Bennett, a physiotherapist who once worked for the Cats.

He and Amie have gone through heartbreaking times, losing their third child Willow Nevaeh, Bella’s twin, just five hours after she was born, having suffered a fatal neural tube defect with no cure known as anencephaly.

Amie has spoken about the pain of the loss in the past, having suffered PTSD, post natal anxiety and post natal depression since the passing of Willow in 2018.

The Instagram influencer and charity and mental health ambassador earlier this year opened up on the loss of her marriage with Rohan, comparing it to losing her child.
