Gary Ablett posts joyous picture of son Levi wearing new boots following diagnosis
Geelong legend Gary Ablett returned from the club’s hub to be with his family during a heartbreaking time. Now, the footy star has shared an update on his son Levi, who is battling a rare and degenerative disease.

Geelong superstar Gary Ablett has posted a joyful picture of his son Levi, saying his “brave” and “determined” son had shown there was much to be grateful for.
Ablett, who is next week due to return to the Queensland hub to join his Cats teammates, captioned the image of his smiling boy: “We got some special boots fitted for our brave boy yesterday. He’s a happy and determined boy who is showing our family there is so much to be grateful for.”
Ablett ended the comment with a love heart.
He and wife Jordan have been through a heartbreaking time of late, with Jordan mourning the recent passing of her mum Trudy Papalia after a battle with lung cancer.
The couple also revealed their 19 month old son Levi was battling a rare and degenerative disease before Ablett entered the team’s Perth hub.
He returned to be with the family, with Jordan posting the emotional reunion between father and son on July 19.
She also revealed that she had taken Levi to the Royal Children’s Hospital with the caption: “My brave boy”.
Ablett, 36, who will retire at the end of this season, was determined he hadn’t played his last game.
The dual Brownlow Medallist has received heartfelt support from the club and teammates.
Cats coach Chris Scott said: “I am going to keep my message to the Abletts private, that’s the way I would like it to be handled so I am going to give the respect to the Abletts that they deserve.
“What I will say publicly is that we love them and will support them as much as possible, if that meant that he wasn’t going to play football this year then so be it.”
