Foo Fighters confirm Geelong show on March 4

Singer Amy Shark had a brilliant response for Daniel Andrews after the Premier snubbed her in a tweet spruiking the upcoming Foo Fighters gig.

Dan Andrews has unwittingly snubbed Amy Shark in a tweet heralding the Foo Fighters’ Geelong gig as “the biggest gig” to be played in Australia in two years.

“This is the biggest gig Australia has seen in two years. It’s kicking off ALWAYS LIVE – the biggest celebration of live music anywhere in Australia,” he tweeted.

Popular indie singer Shark, who is performing the same night as the Foo Fighters, was quick to call out the Victorian Premier in a tongue-in-cheek reply.

“Ummmm hi, I’m playing that night too! My name’s Amy Shark, I’m an Aussie artist playing Rod Laver Arena in melbourne. Cheers Dan,” she wrote.

Fans were quick to throw their support behind Shark, with many saying they’d rather go to her concert than that of the Grammy Award-winning band.

“As much as I love the Foos, I’d rather see you instead,” one fan wrote.

“You’d be more value too, Sharkie. I love going to your shows,” another tweeted.

Another twitter user wrote: “Do you really think old mate give a s--t about our beloved industry that he completely destroyed? I’m in team Shark all the way legend!”.

It comes as details for the Foo Fighters’ Victorian concert have been confirmed, with the US rockers to play a one-off show in Geelong next Friday.

The 12-time Grammy Award-winning band fronted by Dave Grohl will perform at Geelong’s GMHBA Stadium at 8.30pm on March 4, with tickets on sale through Ticketmaster at midday Friday, February 25.

Ticket prices range from $99 to $219.90, with a limit of six tickets per customer.

Support acts will feature local talent including Amyl and the Sniffers, and The Meanies.

All attendees must have received at least two doses of the Covid vaccine.

Tourism Minister Martin Pakula said he expected around 25,000 music fans to flock to the landmark event.

“The Foo Fighters always put on an epic performance and this concert will further cement our position as Australia’s home of music,” he said.

The program will also help bring the late Michael Gudinski’s dream to life — Always Live was a passion project of the Australian music icon.”

The regional gig will kickstart Always Live, a new Visit Victoria program that aims to fund and celebrate contemporary live music.

On its website, Always Live is described as “a brand-new Victoria-wide celebration of contemporary live music, the biggest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and set to make global noise”.

It adds: “Cementing our position as the live music capital of Australia, Always Live is turning up the volume on our unparalleled homegrown talent, the best acts from around the country and the most sought-after artists from across the globe.

“Always Live is taking place Victoria-wide. Our focus is equally on metro, suburban, outer suburban and regional areas across the state.”

The full 2022 Always Live program will be announced mid-year.

Gudinski’s son, Matt, said the initiative would ensure Victoria continues to be recognised as the music capital of the world.

“To see it rolling out at a time when the industry really needs it is a credit to the Victorian Government and the support they throw behind the music industry and the arts,” Mr Gudinski said.

“I know Dad would be very proud to see the event launched and form a major part of re-establishing a thriving live music scene.”

The Herald Sun on February 14 reported the Foo Fighters will return to play stadium shows in November and December.

Their hits include Everlong, Best Of You, Learn To Fly, Monkey Wrench and My Hero.

Their scheduled Geelong date precedes a South American run, kicking off in Mexico City on March 15.

The band is a regular visitor to Australia, and has sold out arenas and stadiums on previous tours.

“The thing I miss the most about Australia are the people,” Grohl told Triple M late last year.

“Honestly, I go around the world, and meet so many people, and I love meeting people, but there’s something about Australians. I haven’t met one I don’t like. I’m serious.

He added: “I love the different cities, I love playing shows down there, I love the food, and I do love the beer. There’s a lot to love about Australia.

“If there’s one place I miss touring more than anywhere, I’m not kidding, it’s Australia. We’ve never walked away from Australia thinking, ‘Well, that was OK.’ We always leave there, like, ‘Oh God, we can’t wait to come back!’”
