Australian small screen legend Daryl Somers is tipped to make a surprise TV return as the host of a reimagined Dancing With The Stars.

Channel 7 has picked up the glitzy and glamorous dancing show after it was dropped recently by Channel 10 after two seasons and rumour abounds that Somers is high on the list of possible hosts.

It is understood 7 is planning a short and sharp revamped three week series featuring an “all star” cast from years gone by.

The biggest star would be Somers, 69, who was the original host of the show in Australia, helming it for seven seasons with Sonia Kruger between 2004 and 2007.

The three-time Gold Logie winner would bring history and heritage to the program and create a huge talking point for the show.

The “all star” format would also allow some of the show’s original judges, such as Todd McKenney, to return which would no doubt delight fans.

It won’t just be winners asked to return to the show however, with 7 understood to be keen to have fan favourites and stars associated with iconic moments from Dancing’s 17 Australian seasons take part in one last spin on the dancefloor.

Memorable moments from the show’s past include every dance by Courtney Act, Mark Holden’s ‘disturbed’ clown performance, Fifi Box falling down the Dancing staircase during rehearsals but dancing on under immense pain with an injured ankle, Kerri-Anne Kennerley ending up in a heap in the floor after mistiming a jump onto the back of her dance partner, Pauline Hanson proving she could dance, Tom Williams’ sexy shirtless freestyle with Kym Johnson, Chris Hemsworth in his pre-Hollywood days doing a Jive, and Nikki Webster being given a 1 out of 10 by “mean” judge McKenney.

Previous winners of Dancing With the Stars include Bec Hewitt, Ada Nicodemou, Grant Denyer, Anthony Koutoufides, Kate Ceberano, Bridie Carter, Adam Brand, Manu Feildel, Cosentino, David Rodan and Samuel Johnson.

Seven is yet to announce any host, judge or cast details.

The show will air on 7 in 2021.
