Why Sarah Ferguson’s Melbourne speaking tour has been postponed

As Prince Harry spilled the beans on royal life, the Duchess of York was preparing to reveal “extraordinary untold stories” in Melbourne. Now her tour is on hold.

As the eye-popping revelations from Prince Harry’s memoir Spare continue to roll out, other royals and their activities have been very much overshadowed by the rogue Duke of Sussex.

One who has very much slipped under the radar is Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, whose much-vaunted Australian speaking tour has been quietly postponed.

The former wife of the disgraced Prince Andrew, Duke of York was due in Melbourne next month as part of a three-city engagement for her “In Conversation” evenings.

Ferguson, or Fergie as she is more commonly known, was booked to tell the “extraordinary untold story of navigating life in the public eye through kindness and resilience” — according to the press release — at Hamer Hall on February 27, with tickets priced between $97 and $188.

The show, which was to be hosted by Ray Martin, promised “a personal account of the life, times and observations of Sarah, and her many extraordinary untold stories.”

“Australia has been home to my sister for many decades and I see it as a second home,” Fergie said when the tour was announced in October.

“I always feel a weight lift off my shoulders when I arrive Down Under. It’s a place where I can be myself.”

Fergie is going to have to wait a little longer to be herself.

Her tour has been put on hold with a note on the promoter’s website reading: “Unfortunately, due to a new schedule clash beyond the Duchess of York’s control, the shows scheduled for February will be postponed to later in the year, on dates to be advised”.

New dates are yet to be announced and according to a spokesman the rescheduled dates could be in 2024 rather than this year.

The postponement is not connected to Harry’s tell-all with the brakes applied to Fergie’s gabfest well before the Spare media blitz was unleashed.
