Underbelly star Gyton Grantley says having time to stoke his young son’s interest in the arts and performing is the silver lining of the COVID-19 lockdown.
Grantley’s three-year-old son Rocco is already showing plenty of flair in the voiceover booth, and looks set to follow his dad as a voice artist.
Grantley has voiced the animation of the book, The Boogers Are Coming, a story created by
Child care web service Toddle, to teach kids about germs and personal hygiene during the COVID-19 crisis.
“It is a handy and cute way to teach the kids how to behave, how to look after themselves and why things are happening during this tough time,” Grantley said.
“Rocco is also featuring. I got him behind the mic as well and you can hear his voice in the animation. He really loved it and I might have a future voice artist on my hands.”
Grantley, who wrapped his contract with the Harry Potter theatre production about a week before COVID-19 lockdown, said being between roles was part of life as an actor.
“I am an artist so I suppose you could say I have been unemployed most of my life,” he said.
“I am basically unemployed and then I work now and again. You always have the option to work casually in hospitality or as a labourer, there is usually always other work out there, but at the moment that is hard work to come by.
“There are a lot of artists out there who are very anxious at the moment.”
