The Rundown: What made TV chef say ‘f--k’ 53 times

The host of Kitchen Nightmares Australia has taken inspiration from Gordon Ramsay in more ways than one in an expletive-laden outburst.

Colin Fassnidge on Kitchen Nightmares

Potty mouthed chef Colin Fassnidge has outdone serial swearer Ant Middleton and given Gordon Ramsay a run for his money with his formidable flurry of f-words as host of Kitchen Nightmares Australia.

Fassnidge is helming the local version of the show made famous by Ramsay who never held back from loudly and colourfully expressing just how subpar a restaurant in need of his help was.

Fassnidge is no slouch when it comes to dropping the f-bomb: he does it multiple times, actually many, many times.

Fassnidge’s language is in fact bleeped out 53 times in the first episode of Kitchen Nightmares Australia.

By comparison the word f--k was bleeped out only 43 times in the first episode of SAS:Australia, hosted by Middleton.

It is doubtful Fassnidge will be toning himself down as the series progresses.

Interestingly the extremely sweary version of Fassnidge is not on show on MKR. He is playing with far more tempered language on that cooking series.

For those who like their expletives unbleeped, the uncensored version of each episode will be available on 7plus once the edited episode has aired.

Kitchen Nightmares Australia will launch soon on Channel 7.

Why Kate is missing from radio role

Former Home And Away darling Kate Ritchie has extended her leave from her national radio show and is unlikely to return until the end of September, however the Nova network says her prolonged absence has nothing to do with her recent drink driving drama.

Ritchie was due back hosting the Kate, Tim and Joel national Drive show with Tim Blackwell and Joel Creasey on Monday, August 29 after a three week break.

This date had been confirmed by Nova on August 19 when asked about Ritchie’s absence from the team.

But come Monday, Ritchie was not on air with Ricki-Lee Coulter continuing to be the perfect fill-in.

A Nova spokesperson confirmed that Ritchie’s leave had been extended by almost a month with her return date now expected to be September 26.

“Kate was initially due back this week for three days before commencing another period of leave to fulfil a filming project,” the spokesperson said.

“Given the short amount of time that Kate would have been back, Nova agreed a few weeks ago to extend her leave and we look forward to welcoming her back after survey break.”

Ritchie was fined $600 and banned from driving for three months after she was pulled over in Sydney last week and allegedly recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.06 at the Maroubra Police Station.

She said via Instagram that she had made a “poor decision” and was “truly sorry” for her actions.

Reading from the same recipe book

With Gary Mehigan and Matt Preston, a contest kitchen space and fellow competitors watching on from a balcony, MKR would seem to have borrowed a few ingredients from its cooking rival MasterChef this season.

It was like turning back time to the MasterChef of a couple of years ago when Mehigan yelled “15 minutes to go” to the sweating, stressed teams battling to get their dessert creations finished on Monday night’s episode.

His later urging that there was “10 minutes to go” was a further echo of the past.

In their MasterChef days Preston, Mehigan and George Calombaris became famous for their “minutes to go” calls.

MKR doesn’t have the large grand clock that hangs ominously over the kitchen in MasterChef, rather it has gone for a digital version that it cuts to for the countdown.

Mehigan’s commanding time calls certainly brought back memories of the MasterChef glory days when he, Preston and Calombaris ruled the TV fine foodies space.

Pot shot over paint job

Painting appears to be the new frontier for tears and tantrums on The Block with the ability – or lack of – to slap a bit of colour on a wall set to be the short fuse that leads to bitterness and bitchiness between contestants.

That fuse was lit on Monday when former Neighbours star Sharon Johal took great offence to Sarah-Jane Wilson taking a pot shot at her sloppy brushwork, issuing fighting words in response to the verbal jab.

“Lovely Sarah-Jane made a comment of ‘we all know Sharon and Ankur are the worst at painting’ and my heart just sank and I went quiet because I felt like we were being laughed at behind our backs, but in front of us, in a group setting and it is not cool,” Johal responded.

“It is just rude, it is unnecessary, it just makes me feel like crap.

“And if I wanted to be rude back I could say the last two weeks we beat you on crap painting and the ideas alone, but I am not an arsehole, that is what happened though.

“It was a deliberate jab, she is so self absorbed she wouldn’t care.

“Some people just get away with being rude just because that is their personality and I am just not here for it.”

Fellow contestant Ryan Carr didn’t have much time for the brushstrokes drama.

His response to Johal’s complaint: “Suck it up princess, it is just a call, we all say silly things at times, don’t take it to heart.”
