A supposed fan of Melbourne celebrities has been interviewed by police for allegedly bogusly claiming he was assaulted at a Dolly Parton musical by one of Australia’s best known theatre performers.
Kodei Mulcahy, 22, from Werribee, claimed on Instagram on July 14 that he had been “physically assaulted” by Rhonda Burchmore at the opening of the musical 9 To 5 at the Arts Centre Melbourne that evening.
It is understood no such thing happened.
Rather the Herald Sun understands Mulcahy approached Burchmore and she told him to go away and leave her alone. She reported him to police.
The following day Mulcahy made a police report claiming he had been assaulted by the star.
On Friday, Mulcahy’s claim took a twist with police interviewing him for allegedly making a false statement.
“A 22-year-old Werribee man was interviewed on Friday, 26 August, in relation to an alleged perjury,” Victoria Police said in a statement.
“It is understood a woman was falsely accused of assaulting a man in Melbourne in July 2022.
“The 22-year-old was released and is expected to be charged on summons.”
It capped off an eventful week for Mulcahy who had three warrants issued for his arrest after he failed to show up to the Werribee Magistrates Court on Thursday to face unrelated charges of stalking and assault.
“A 22-year-old Werribee man who was wanted on warrant for failing to appear at court handed himself in to Southbank Police Station on Friday, 26 August,” Victoria Police confirmed.
“He has been bailed to face Werribee Magistrates Court on 2 February, 2023.”
