Rhonda Burchmore wants people to dress up at home in tribute to the cancelled Logies

The Logies have been cancelled, but showbiz queen Rhonda Burchmore says celebs and fans shouldn’t miss out on the glitz and glamour. This is her grand plan for a tribute to this year’s awards.

Rhonda Burchmore is urging the TV industry to frock up at home as a tribute to this year’s Logies, which were yesterday cancelled due to COVID-19.

The showbiz queen wants to still bring the night’s glitz and glam to people even without an awards ceremony on June 28.

“I reckon fashion is 99 per cent of why people tune in to watch it,’’ Burchmore said.

“Someone can be judging best on the kitchen floor or who does the best loungeroom twirl.

“I was very excited after my flaunt in the jungle that I’d get up there to the Gold Coast in a leopard print outfit.”

Burchmore said normally the Logies are an invitation-only event, but this could be open to include more guests.

“I’m not sure how it could come together but restrictions might have been lifted by then and potentially a group of us could get together,’’ Burchmore said.

“I could even do an opening number. People will be posting old Logies photos anyway, but to keep it fresh and current we should get all the usual offenders and more.”

Last year’s Gold Logie winner Tom Gleeson, who offended some with his winning speech, found a positive out of the situation.

“I ate the bat in Wuhan. Everything has gone to plan. GOLD LOGIE WINNER FOR 2 YEARS!,’’ he tweeted.

ABC journalist and presenter Barrie Cassidy said the decision was “insane”.

“The Logies are not an event,” he tweeted last night. “They are a series of awards. Why would you not hand them out anyway for the record!”

Bauer Media, which publishes the Logie’s main sponsor TV WEEK, issued a statement.

“All parties agree the most positive outcome is to not hold the Logies, including public voting, in 2020,’’ Fiona Connolly said.

“The Logies is loved because it is a live event, with viewers at home enjoying seeing the red-carpet glamour and the entertainment community coming together.”

The event will return to the Gold Coast’s The Star casino in 2021, taking into consideration the past 12 months of television as well as all programs that will air for the remainder of 2020.
