Jacqui Felgate is ready to pull up the boots for her first season of footy alongside some of the greats of the game as party of 3AW’s top rating AFL broadcast team.
‘It is a pinch me moment,’ Felgate, an unabashed Geelong fan, said.
Felgate will host AW’s pre-game coverage on Friday nights wrangling a panel consisting of Anthony Hudson, Leigh Matthews and Matthew Lloyd.
‘As someone who grew up in Melbourne and loves footy, to be able to be part of this is really wonderful and special,’ she said.
‘What I love is the passion of these guys.’
Felgate is quick to point out she won’t be calling the game, but is well versed in football and footy issues.
While she has years of experience in TV and print, radio is still a relatively new space for her but is excited at the challenge to ‘test yourself in a new medium on a totally different level.’
‘I am just here to drive a conversation and that is what I have always done in whatever job I have had,’ she said.
The experienced media performer and noted new hound said she was prepared for feedback from listeners.
‘I hosted a Brownlow Medal count and I hosted Footy Central (on Channel 7) for several years,’ she said.
‘People have always been very kind and if you do your research and are passionate about the game and put your whole heart into something, that is all you can do.
‘You are never going to be able to please everyone and that is OK.
‘I am not there to call a game. I am there to drive a conversation and that is what I love to do.’
Felgate’s AW footprint continues to grow. She will team up with Jimmy Bartel to host AW breakfast during rating survey breaks in April, July and September this year.
