Sex, shagging, appendage size, booty calls, sleeping with superfans and a naked couple kissing in the studio.
No, this isn’t an old episode of The Jerry Springer Show, it is just a sliver of the salacious antics served up for breakfast by king of controversy Kyle Sandilands on week one of his Melbourne radio revolution.
In case you were living under a rock, Sandilands’ launched his Kyle & Jackie O Show on KIIS 101.1 last week, stirring up outrage with crass language, gaudy games and endless revelations of “sexcapades in the suburbs”.
But while “vile Kyle” was shocking and titillating listeners, rival Melbourne stations were rolling out a mix of celebrity chats and lurid listener confessions.
Fox FM’s Fifi, Fev and Nick (Fifi Box, Brendan Fevola and Nick Cody) highlights of week one of the battle for breakfast radio, included interviews with Caitlyn Jenner, Premier Jacinta Allan, footballers Jack Crisp and Harry McKay, boxer Harry Garside, comedian Dave Hughes, and Delta Goodrem.
A call out for where in Melbourne people have sex saw the phone lines blow up. Dee volunteered she had romped with her husband at the toilets at the Regent Theatre while watching Moulin Rouge.
“How romantic … it was wham, bam, thank you ma’am,” she said.
Caller James confessed: “I have done it at the Fawkner Cemetery.”
Another spicy topic was have you faked your own death?
Then they had callers piling in to tell of breaking the ‘bro code’ (dating a friend’s ex).
“When I was teenager my twin sister stole my boyfriend,” Steff spilt, adding they were identical twins who shared a room.
Box spoke about online trolls and commentary about her body, revealed she used a body double in Fox’s recent TV ad and heard from listeners who had had experiences with hit men.
Fevola also did a Street Talk segment in Collingwood.
Nova’s Jase & Lauren’s (Jase Hawkins and Lauren Phillips) week included having a crack at Sandilands and KIIS for crashing their ‘meet the listeners’ promotion twice with their big pink bus.
Callers eagerly told of the weird ways they had met their partners.
“I had had a rather big night at 161 (Chapel St nightclub) and was sitting in the gutter having a cry and my husband, now, came out from Revolver (Chapel St nightclub) and he crossed the road to have a wee and he nearly wee-ed on me,” Angie rang in to share.
Other topics that lit up the lines were wild one night stands and weird things you do in the nude.
They interviewed Collingwood’s Mason Cox, Kita Alexander, Mel Bracewell and Tim McDonald, Demon star Christian Petracca, and long distance runners Stefan and Lachlan Lamble. Phillips also caught up with Chris Hemsworth.
The had callers chime in on weird family traditions, searched for Melbourne’s oldest drivers and had listeners dob in Melbourne’s dumbest cheaters.
Over at KIIS, interviews included Jason Derulo, Michael Buble, Anthony Albanese, Meshel Laurie, Kate Langbroek and DJ Joel Corry.
Then there was the naked dating segment where a couple stripped and pashed in the KIIS studio as Sandilands and Henderson gave a running commentary.
Henderson shared her wildest sex stories including discovering part way through a bedroom romp that she was being intimate with a superfan
“Halfway through sex he is looking at me and he says ‘I can’t believe I am having sex with Jackie O’,” she said.
Later in the week Sandilands and Henderson tried to help a married couple break their “dry spell.”
They spoke with a stripper who is six months pregnant and still performing at bucks parties, interviewed Matt Barr, a British man with huge genitalia, and had a ‘booty call’ segment where a woman, Chantelle, dumped her casual hook up, Matteo, after he would not graduate to relationship status with her.
On the flip side to the shagging shenanigans, Sandilands spoke passionately about his mother being a victim of domestic violence and told of his wedding anniversary dinner.
Sandilands promised Melbourne listeners that his show would be like nothing else on air in Melbourne and he sure held true to that promise on week one.
