Nova’s Jase Hawkins has revealed the awkward clandestine first meeting in a five-star hotel room between himself and his radio co-host Lauren Phillips.
The pair have combined to become one of Melbourne’s most powerful radio pairings, however they barely knew each other when they began working together on KIIS FM in August 2021.
“When we first met we did a demo in a hotel room, which sounds seedy as hell,” Hawkins told the Dos & D podcast.
“It was the Park Hyatt. She met me there, I’ve come downstairs and introduced myself, she has gone up to the room and there she is sitting on the end of the bed with a microphone.
“Imagine this, we have just met and we are in a hotel room recording a demo and it just sort of clicked.”
In August last year, after moving to Nova, the Jase & Lauren show topped the FM breakfast ratings.
“The day we went No1 she Facetimed me from Greece with Matt Damon and I was with my son at Ten Greek Plates (in Brighton) picking up takeaway,” Hawkins said.
“You could not get more different people, but I think it works just because we respect each other’s lives.”
