Robust podcaster Sam Newman has gone all out to show his public support for newly elected US president Donald Trump, with his 1959 Cadillac now sporting red MAGA number plates.
So confident was Newman that Trump would win the US presidential race, he ordered the MAGA 47 plates in January.
He chose the number 47 as Trump’s victory makes him the 47th president of the United States.
To say Trump is a divisive character is an understatement, but Newman has never shied away from the fact he is a long time fan of the former reality TV host turned politician.
He is not concerned that his prized vehicle could be targeted by anti-Trump campaigners once it hits the road with its attention grabbing plates.
“There are plenty of people driving around with political slogan stickers on their cars that I don’t agree with,” he said.
“If people are prepared to damage the car then that will show you the pieces of poo that are around.
“It does not matter if they are stolen, they are my plates and I will get them remade.”
Having been in Queensland, in the Whitsunday region, for the majority of the past six months, Newman said what he noticed on his return to Melbourne was how grubby the city had become.
“(In the Airlie Beach area) there is no graffiti, no litter, people are respectful, there are no protests,” he said.
Newman will attend the Sport Australia Hall of Fame dinner at Crown on Monday evening as the ‘plus 1’ of his companion, Sue Stanley, who accompanied him on his sailing odyssey along Australia’s east coast.
“I am a handbag,” he said.
