Rumours of two Soho House venues in Australia – one in Melbourne and one in Sydney

Speculation is swirling that a South Yarra mansion will be converted to a Soho House venue – much to the delight of the celeb-set and trust-fund kids.

Poolman House on Domain Road, South Yarra is being touted as the potential site for the Soho House venue.

Rumours that the international, celebrity-studded, private members’ club, Soho House, was soon to put down roots in Melbourne has taken a curious twist.

Could plans be afoot for two Soho House venues to be established in Australia – one in Sydney and one in Melbourne? The celeb-set and trust-fund kids will be beside themselves.

The Soho House Group is understood to be sniffing around for a possible Sydney location.

The leafy eastern suburbs or the CBD fringe, rather than obvious Bondi and beach suburbs, would seem to fit the bill for the club. What’s going on in Surry Hills these days?

Soho House could soon put down roots in Melbourne.

And South Yarra would appear to be the business’s pick for Melbourne.

Speculation that Soho House was heading to Melbourne was sparked after a consortium submitted plans to the Melbourne City Council for a $12.5 million renovation of Poolman House, a six-bedroom mansion on the corner of Punt and Domain roads in South Yarra.

The proposal outlined plans to convert the historic property into a venue to be used as an “internationally renowned private members club.”

Soho House was not named in the document and no there are no confirmed plans for the brand in Australia yet. The plans are still at council.

However, Australia is clearly very much in the sights of Nick Jones, the UK entrepreneur behind Soho House.

“We’re nearly there in Australia. One important thing about Australia is that we would do Melbourne and Sydney at the same time. If I’m going that far, I might as well do both places. I don’t want to piss them off, there’s a lot of competition between the two,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in 2019.
