One of the classic characters of Neighbours will be written out of the show as an off-screen death after the sad passing of the beloved actor who played the role.
The passing of Ramsay Street favourite Rosemary Daniels will be a featured storyline on the long-running soap this week following the death in September 2023 of Joy Chambers, aged 76.
The loss of Rosemary will be announced by Paul Robinson, played by Stefan Dennis.
Chambers first appeared in Erinsborough as Rosemary in 1986 and made her final guest appearance on Neighbours in 2010.
A Logie-award winning actor, Chambers was married to rich lister media mogul, Reg Grundy, from 1971 until his death in 2016.
Neighbours executive producer Jason Herbison confirmed the unique storyline.
“With the sad passing of actress Joy Grundy, we felt it fitting that her character, Rosemary Daniels, would also pass in the show,” Herbison said.
“Stefan Dennis, who plays Paul, had the lovely idea that it could be the reason why his character goes to New York, which was already in our planning.
“Rosemary was often seen with her mum, played by the late Anne Haddy, and it’s heartwarming to think these two legends might somehow be reunited.”
Neighbours is still filmed in Melbourne in the suburb of Vermont South.
After being axed in mid 2022 the revival of Neighbours is riding high after being nominated for a Daytime Emmy in the US as best daytime drama series.
And as icing on the cake, Guy Pearce has picked up a nomination for best guest performance in a daytime drama series for his brief return as Mike Young.
The Daytime Emmy award ceremony will be held in Los Angeles in early June.
