Former AFL star’s ‘hot boy summer’ cooled as ex-girlfriend enters Love Island villa

Mitch Hibberd’s “hot boy summer” plans will be cooled as his ex-girlfriend is set to crash the Love Island villa this week.

Ghosts of girlfriends — or one girlfriend in particular — past haunt former AFL player and self-described “big, loveable idiot”, Mitch Hibberd as he kicks on in his post footy reality TV career.

Hibberd is back for another round of Love Island Australia, but this time a surprise has been waiting for him in the show’s Spanish villa — his ex-girlfriend Tina Provis.

The pair, who hooked up and won the previous series of Love Island, split earlier this year and had blanked each other for months.

“We had not spoken for about five months before the show,” Hibberd said.

“Obviously it was a big shock to have your ex in the villa.

“When I was getting on that plane going to Spain it was hot boys summer abroad time. I was keen to get in the villa, chat to all the girls and crack on and have a good time.

“All of a sudden that hot boys summer came crashing back to earth pretty quickly.

“I am a confident lad, a big personality, so when I get into that environment I just go for it. It is pretty hard getting to know all these different girls with your ex watching everything.”

Hibberd, who played for North Melbourne and Essendon during his nine game AFL career, is not letting his reality TV exposure go to his head.

“I am not under any illusion, I know I am not an A-list celebrity coming off the show,” he said.

“But there is exposure and opportunities that you would never have had before.

“I enjoy the unpredictability of TV. Now I have done Love Island twice, who knows what is next.

“I am 25 now and my life to this day has just been crazy with footy, living out a childhood dream, and then into TV.

“I love going on TV and being myself. I am just the normal everyday big, loveable idiot.”

Coach’s shock silence to The Voice winner

Footy player turned singer Lachie Gill hasn’t heard from his superstar coach Rita Ora since his victorious moment on The Voice grand final in May.

“I am going to be completely honest with you, I have not spoken to her since the show which maybe is a bit sad for everyone, but also I totally understand that she is one busy woman,” Gill said.

“She flew back to LA the day after the show finished and obviously would have a lot going on. I have not really bothered to try and reach out and contact her because I sort of know that she would have a pretty busy schedule.

“She is there to help and mentor the singers throughout the show and once that period ends she has a whole lot of other things to do.”

Melbourne-based Gill was part of Ora’s team on the most recent season of The Voice and went on to win the 11th season of the Channel 7 show.

Gill is taking big strides in his post Voice career, with his new single Sad Summer marking a moves away from his love of sad songs.

“This is what I have wanted to do for a long time (be a singer/song writer), it is not something that I wanted to be a quick cash grab or to capitalise on all the people watching the show,” he said.

“I want to be an artist, so it didn’t really matter for me how long it took (to get this single out), I just wanted to make sure it was right.”

Gill is playing his Sad Summer: Live + Intimate acoustic show at Memo Music Hall, St Kilda on Friday, December 2.

“I have a whole lot of new music that no one has heard that I just want to play, because I love these songs so much,” he said.

“Some of them might get released, some of them may never get released.

“This is what I’ve been working on, this is me as an artist and this is what you are going to be getting from here on. I am so excited by it.”
