Melbourne VIP: Weddings, announcements and events

When COVID put a stop on their Venice dream wedding, a Melbourne couple recreated the magic of the city in Ascot Vale.

A wedding inspired by the magic and romance of a historic palace in Venice was the dream of Melbourne make-up artist Nezrine Aziz who married Charlie Bailey in grand style.

Aziz and Bailey originally planned to wed at the Ca’Sagredo Palace in Venice last June, however, after COVID-19 put a stop to international travel the couple decided to use the grandeur and elegance of Venice as inspiration for their nuptials at historic Ascot House in Ascot Vale.

Aziz’s exquisite delicate yet decadent gown was created by Melbourne’s Zian Couture featuring pearls, beading and three types of vintage French lace, while Bailey, a sales executive, wore a custom Bell & Barnett suit.

After arriving in a vintage Rolls Royce, the bride walked an aisle of mirrored tiles, a nod to the waterways of Venice, lined with white blooms to meet Bailey at the wedding altar.

After exchanging vows the couple celebrated with 60 guests in a purpose-built, draped garden marquee complete with dramatic chandeliers.

“I wanted my wedding to be beautiful, classic, full of detail; I wanted it to be extra,” Aziz said.

“I love vintage, old-school and elegance. I wanted to wow our guests and share something special with them. It was a magical day – the best day of both our lives.”

The wedding was conceptualised, planned and styled by Flower of the Lily events, Pro Light and Sound did the build, florals were by Melbourne Event Flowers, Poppy Culture created the wedding bouquet, photography was by Yervant Photography and videography by Moon & Back.

The bride also wanted to thank Shane Lachmund from Ascot House.
