‘Karen from Brighton’ now off to the races

She may have “done all of Brighton,” but now the woman who gained notoriety during Melbourne’s lockdown has inspired a racehorse name.

“Karen from Brighton’s” lockdown legacy continues with the anti-Dan supporter inspiring racehorse names.

“Karen”, otherwise known as Brighton’s Jodi Grollo, became a social media star after she expressed her frustrations at having to stay in her suburb during the early days of last year’s lockdown.

“I’ve done all of Brighton,” she lamented while power strolling the Tan in July.

Now, rather than walking New St, a racehorse named All of Brighton has done a lap of the track at Echuca.

Owner David Price confirmed the name had been “100 per cent” inspired by the infamous “Karen”.

All Of Brighton, a three-year-old gelding sired by Needs Further, had its first start at Echuca on December 31, finishing second.

“If a headline in Australia tickles my fancy I will often have a look to see if I have a horse with a pedigree that the name would suit and quite often there is one,” Price said.

“So I thank her for the name. I’ve got another
Needs Further at home which I am thinking of calling Heading North.”

He said that name would be inspired by Grollo’s decision to get out of Melbourne during lockdown and head to Darwin.

Price has had plenty of interestingly named horses over the years. The Western Bulldogs supporter has raced horses with names including Whitten Oval, Bontempelli, Picken and Liberatore.

He even had a runner called Don’t Blush Baby named after an on-air exchange between reporter Mel McLaughlin and cricketer Chris Gayle. “That one got a bit of notice,” he said.
