Carlton fanatic Tommy the tradie remains strong in his belief that his famous giant Blues tattoo will propel his beloved team to Grand Final glory.
Tommy from North Carlton, as he has become known as, is wearing his heart on his leg, having got a huge tattoo celebrating the Blues as 2023 premiers inked on his right calf in December 2022. He took the plunge after having a vision.
Tommy now believes his tattoo has helped manifest success for the team.
“Ever since I got the tattoo this is the best season Carlton has had since 2000,” Tommy said.
“I jokingly say the people of Rathdowne Street are calling me the prophet.
“A lot of past and current players have seen it and I guess it is like I am planting a seed in their subconscious mind of what can be.
“Matt Kennedy and Charlie Curnow, they saw it together early in the year and said, ‘Well, geez, we’d better win it now then’. That was when we weren’t looking too good and we were playing some inconsistent footy where we had a number of losses.”
Tommy said Carlton would go through the final’s series undefeated.
“I am seeing Charlie Curnow, who I am now naming Mr September, because he is going to be our star, like Dustin Martin, who gets us through from week one to week two to week three and gets us the flag on that last Saturday in September.”
Tommy has been a Carlton and AFL member for the past 25 years and has stuck with the Blues through the good and the dark times.
With the club guaranteed a finals berth he is “trying to keep a lid on it.”
Celebrity tattoos
Footy larrikin Campbell Brown has had his champion racehorse immortalised in ink on his bum.
Brown is one of a number of celebrities to have unusual tattoos in odd places on their body.
Reasoning that winning a Group 1 race was like winning a premiership in the AFL, Brown decided his mare Sweet Idea deserved a permanent tribute on his body.
It took a couple of years but the thoroughbred now has pride on place on the ex-footballer’s rump - or as Brown put it, his “left arse cheek.”.
Sweet Idea won the Group 1 Galaxy sprint in 2015 and Brown was one of the mare’s part owners.
“I have a hawk on my right (backside cheek) and a horse on my left,” he told Browny’s Podcast.
“I fell asleep during the tattooing part of it - just tired.”
Sweet Idea, who was sold to Queen Elizabeth II in 2015, was a very good racehorse.
The mare won the Magic Millions Guineas in 2014 and Brown ended up in the clink after he was refused re-entry to a Gold Coast nightclub while celebrating Sweet Idea’s victory and police got involved.
Other celebrities sporting strange tattoos include former Collingwood rat packer Dane Swan, who had Sam Neman’s face inked onto his rear in 2014 after losing a bet.
“Good to know that every time I sit down now on Sammy’s face,” Swan said after the tattoo artist had done their portrait work.
Newman retorted: “Now when he gets his kit off, it’ll be worth looking at.”
Outspoken commentator Steve Price also has a tattoo.
He has Dane Swan’s initials tattooed under his right arm. Price’s tattoo was also the result of a bet gone bad.
Meanwhile, former Carlton player turned social media star Daniel Gorringe sports a very large tattoo of ex-Gold Coast Suns coach Stuart Dew on his backside.
He had the tattoo done in 2022 after making a rash declaration in 2021 that if the Suns beat Carlton in round 21 of that AFL season he would “get Stuart Dew’s face tattooed on me.”
The ink is proof that Gorringe is man of his word.
Tommy From North Carlton became a media darling after it was revealed last week that he had a huge tattoo on his leg declaring Carlton as the 2023 Premiers. His dream is still alive with the Blues now into the AFL finals.
And then there is the gentleman in Geelong who has a tattoo of Channel 7 weather presenter Jane Bunn tattooed on his rib cage.
“My friends actually got that copied and got tattoos made and they all wore them for my birthday as a surprise,” Bunn said in 2019.
“They got T-shirts made too. I am just glad they (the tattoos) washed off later.”
