Melbourne’s most optimistic footy supporter has had a large tattoo inked on his leg celebrating Carlton as the 2023 AFL premiers after having a vision that his beloved Blues would win the flag this year.
Tommy the tradie from North Carlton had the significantly sized tattoo of a cartoon-like Carlton player kicking a footy above the wording ‘Premiers 2023’ inked onto the outside of his right calf in December last year.
Carlton failed to make the finals last year.
“It was round 23 last year, the Carlton Collingwood game, and something popped up in my mind and I said to myself ‘I don’t care if we lose today as long as we win the grand final next year’,” Tommy, a 25 year member of Carlton, said.
“I had an out of body experience in the last quarter. I visioned Charlie Curnow kicking the winning goal at the Punt Road end, but it actually wasn’t for that game against Collingwood, it was for the 2023 grand final.”
Acting on his epiphany, Tommy headed weeks later to Carlisle Tattoo Co in St Kilda to commit to his belief.
“When I am walking around the streets of North Carlton in September everyone is going to see it,” he said.
“Former players like Kenny Hunter, Marc Murphy, Stephen Kernahan and Brendan Fevola have seen the tattoo as have lots of current players. I want the players to see it, hopefully it will give them some incentive.”
On Friday, Carlton was sitting in fifth spot on the AFL ladder.
