It is curtains for MasterChef’s Matt Preston who has finally revealed his closely drawn fashion secrets.
Known for his creative wardrobe ensembles and sartorial splendour, Preston admits he puts plenty of thought into what he will wear on the hit Channel 10 series.
And his search for unique and interesting material has led him to — of all places — the haberdashery department of Ikea.

“People remark that I am built like a large comfy sofa so it is perhaps suitable that I clothe myself in curtain material,” Preston said.
“Last year we were desperate to find fabric with big, broad stripes and we found this brilliant green and white striped fabric which we made into pants and they basically broke the internet.
“I could not find anything similar until I was in Ikea, in the curtain department and I saw this fabric; it was lightweight curtain fabric in black and white, grey and white, yellow and white, and blue and white stripes.
“I took the fabric down to the guy who makes all my clothes in Carlton and he worked his magic. So now I have four more amazing pairs of striped pants and you will see them throughout the season (of the show).”
Preston said he was pleased to be a fashion trendsetter.
“I wear what I like and what I want to wear and I feel that I am carrying the banner for every bloke that has a comedy Hawaiian shirt in the cupboard that his mates understand and his partner just rolls her eyes at,” he said.
The new season of MasterChef launches Monday night.
