North Melbourne’s Majak Daw has told how the birth of his son changed his life.
Daw and his partner, Emily McKay, welcomed their son, Hendrix, on August 29 and have been in a besotted state of bliss as they adapt to parenthood.
“I am one of nine kids and I have four nieces and he is the first boy in my family,” Daw said.
“Everyone is delighted and he is so loved. We have been so lucky. Em is an amazing mother and I am so proud of her. He is a wonderful baby and it makes everything so much easier.”
The couple joined friends at the Bumble marquee in the Flemington Birdcage on Saturday, one of their first social outings without Hendrix since his birth.
Daw, who spent the 2019 footy season on the sidelines while recovering from injuries to his hips and pelvis following a Melbourne bridge accident in January, said becoming a father had given him new priorities in life.
He said he was hoping to return to the field for North in Round 1 next year.
“It is a different perspective. He is the priority now,” Daw said.
“I have been training and getting ready to get back into training with the club
“It (a return to footy) is still a while away and the family is the priority, but the footy club has been amazing in their support of us and Hendrix.

“Come Round 1, hopefully, I will be ready to go.”
McKay said becoming parents brought calm into their lives.
“It has forced us to slow down,” McKay said.
“We just have to stop, feed and worry about him (Hendrix). You have to let everything else go and focus on him and keeping him happy.”
