Jane Bunn has given an insight into the measures TV newsrooms are taking in order to keep their presenting teams on air during the corona crisis.
Gloves, masks, hand washing, hand sanitiser, social distancing, limited interaction and open doors are part of the preventive actions in place across networks.
“Our hair and makeup teams are trying to keep a distance from us,” the Seven News presenter said.
“They are using extra long makeup brushes now and we have our own set of brushes, and they are wearing gloves and masks.
“When I am working with other members of the team we are 1.5 metres apart; you get used to people backing away.
“What is really interesting is all the doors in the office are now propped open so you never touch anything as you walk around.
“I go from the car to inside (Seven) and there is nothing to touch. It is a different way of life.”
Channel 9 is keeping its on-air talent including Peter Hitchener and Livinia Nixon away from its general newsroom and has strict cleaning and sanitising protocols in place.
Its newsroom has been divided into red and blue teams which work four days on, four days off. Wardrobe and makeup teams are wearing gloves and masks.
Channel 10 has similar measures to 7 and 9 in place as well as social distancing for staff, limited newsroom time for presenters, guests interviewed remotely or from another studio, and journalists and camera operators travelling separately to stories.
