The ‘Brass Fev’ – a statue struck in honour of former Carlton great Brendan Fevola – has suddenly disappeared from Flinders Street Station.
The statue of the big Blue has become a late-night magnet for Carlton fans who clamber for a selfie with the glistening life-size Fevola in his footy gear outside its home at the Clocks club and bar on the Flinders Street Station concourse.
But in the past week the Carlton faithful have been left bewildered and in despair with the sudden and unexplained disappearance of their beloved ‘Brass Fev’.
While some Clocks regulars believe the Fevola statue has been taken by government operatives as part of a plan to heritage list the bust, it appears more likely that it is being cloned.
Yes, there is potentially going to be two ‘Brass Fevs’ in Melbourne – as well as the real Fevola who is a key part of the Fifi, Fev and Nick breakfast show on Fox FM.
The original Fevola statue is potentially going to be relocated to Narre Warren, where it was first unveiled in March this year before being moved to the front of Clocks.
It is understood logistics as to whether it can return permanently to Narre Warren – where the real Brendan Fevola grew up – are being worked through meaning the statue is in limbo at the moment.
The Clocks team is clearly missing the Fevola statue and has launched a highly imaginative and entertaining social media campaign to have their beloved ‘Brass Fev’ returned to its Flinders Street home.
And the “tired and emotional” footy fans who flock for selfies in the wee hours are also missing the new – now disappeared – icon of Flinders Street Station.
A Fox FM source on Saturday said the solution to the demand for Fevola statues might simply be to clone them.
The now famous and in demand Fevola statue was originally unveiled in Webb Street, Narre Warren as part of a Fox FM, Fifi, Fev and Nick breakfast radio stunt on March 15.
In April, the fake Fevola took up residence outside Clocks on the Flinders Street Station concourse, directly across the road from Federation Square.
The statue was so popular that it needed its own security.
It was also a target for pranks, as evidenced when Fox’s radio rivals KIIS FM put a KIIS branded T-shirt on the statue.
