Eddie McGuire reveals the job he’d take over being Melbourne Lord Mayor

Eddie McGuire has confirmed he’s been asked to enter the Melbourne mayoral race but added he’d rather be president of a certain football club than throw his hat in the council ring.

Eddie McGuire has confirmed he has been sounded out as to whether he would consider throwing his hat into next year’s Lord Mayor of Melbourne race.

However the TV, football and business identity said it was not a role he was interested in pursuing.

“The answer is I have had people (ask if he would stand), but no,” McGuire said.

“I think I would rather be the president of Carlton,” he quipped.

McGuire said the issue was raised with him by a number of people after Steve Price wrote a Sunday Herald Sun column in June saying Melbourne desperately needed someone like McGuire in the mayoral race.

“I have other business interests and there will be other things that will become apparent in the not too distant future as to what I am doing with my TV career,” he said.

Current Lord Mayor Sally Capp is yet to confirm if she will run again.

McGuire announced on Friday that his long running TV quiz show Millionaire Hot Seat would be shelved indefinitely at the end of January. He still hosts Footy Classified for Channel 9 and is involved with podcasts and footy at 3AW. His TV production company JAMTV is also going from strength to strength.

Speaking of 3AW, Jacqui Felgate continues to firm as hot favourite to take over the Afternoon shift at the station next year.

Felgate hosted the shift for four days last week with a post on her Instagram account suggesting a much longer run was in store.

In response to a call out about Victorian towns worth a visit she wrote: “Thank you for all your messages about Victoria’s best towns. I’ve got a great list. We’ll feature one on 3AW every Thursday.”

Nine Radio said a decision was yet to be made as to who will present the afternoon shift full time in 2024.

“3AW will continue to rotate hosts in the afternoon slot for the rest of the year,” a spokesperson said.
