Gold Logie winner Craig McLachlan is preparing to relaunch his entertainment career.
McLachlan has signed with mercurial celebrity manager Max Markson to move forward from the holding pattern he has been in for the past six years while dealing with a high-profile court battle.
“I miss communing with my audiences and it is time to get back to it, it is time to get back on the horse,” McLachlan said.
The former Neighbours star, who took part in SAS: Australia in 2023, said while out of the spotlight he had been refining a musical that he wrote in 2018 and had been crafting a cache of original songs.
“A song or two has turned into 35 songs and there is an entire show that speaks to not just the last six years, but life, really,” he said.
“It is not all doom and gloom, there is some very funny material as well. Believe it or not, I trained a wild rabbit to come leaping out of the bush and jump into my lap and eat a carrot.
“All of those sorts of things found themselves into this music. I am sure some of the stuff the world won’t ever hear, but some of it I am sure the world will get to hear.”
Returning to the stage is not out of the question.
“I have had contact with some producers in the UK over the last little while, looking at a couple of musical theatre projects,” he said.
“There is a musical that I wrote, really encouraged by some well-known song writers and technical producers. We were looking to work shop it in 2018. Since then I have had some interest from some young, talented animators who are very keen to explore doing an animated version of this musical.
“If the right film or TV project came up I would love to get back to doing that.”
McLachlan successfully fought to clear his name after being hit with 13 charges relating to allegations he assaulted his Rocky Horror Show co-stars while playing the role of Frank N Furter in Melbourne in 2014. McLachlan denied all allegations and was found not guilty.
