Australia’s most elegant racegoer Olympia Bellchambers is pinning her racing hopes on a cocky colt sporting the name of a feared Melbourne underworld figure with the moniker inspired by actor, Vince Colosimo.
Bellchambers, who shone at the Caulfield Cup in a stunning Sonia Cappellazzo red frock with pink organza sleeves, recently purchased shares in the colt whose name is a nod to one of Colosimo’s most famous on screen roles.
He played Alphonse Gangitano in the iconic Australia drama Underbelly. The horse is from a mare named Colosimo.
“We are hoping he has his first start in January,” Bellchambers said.
Bellchambers, who recently wed former Essendon star Thomas Bellchambers, said married life was bliss.
“One hundred per cent, I am the happiest I have ever been,” she said.
“Thomas makes me incredibly happy, we have an amazing relationship and he is my partner in crime.”
Elsewhere on course ex-AFL player David Zaharakis, who is tipped to be a contestant on the new season of Australian Survivor, said he was interested in TV opportunities.
“If some opportunities present themselves, I won’t say no,” he said.
“I have done some media things during my football career and I have had fun doing them so if anything does come up in the future I would be more than happy to jump at them.”
Fashionista Nadia Bartel turned heads in a white frock with a dramatic cape like bodice.
“I love this carnival because you can actually see the horses and feel really amongst it,” she said.
Acclaimed actor Daniel MacPherson said he was heading to the Gold Coast in two weeks to film Land of Bad.
The film stars Russell Crowe, Liam Hemsworth, Milo Ventimiglia, Ricky Whittle and Chika Ikogwe.
Other well-known faces at Caulfield included Nathan Buckley, Rozalia and Nick Russian, Lana Wilkinson, Rebecca Harding, Effie Kats, Owen Wright, Stewart McSweyn, Daniel Gorringe and Ana Cannon, Jack Silvagni, Max King, Sam and Snezana Wood and Matt Zukowski.
Men lead the field in style stakes
Gentlemen, this is your year to shine. It is early in the spring racing season but it appears men are going to outstrip women in the style stakes this year with their bold choices.
At yesterday’s Caulfield Cup, gents were being anything but boring with sharp suits, loud checks and elegant accessories - think pocket hankies, tie pins and even the odd male broach.
Social media star and podcaster, Daniel Gorringe gave a sharp grey checked jacket a run, Jamarra Ugle-Hagan worked a navy and white checked suit, while Daniel MacPherson was all class in an oatmeal suit with burgundy accessories.
While contemplating a few bets on the horses, Gorringe revealed he had been handed a lifetime ban on making bets with his body parts by his fiance Ana Cannon.
In January he had a tattoo of Gold Coast Suns coach Stuart Dew inked on his butt cheek as a result of a losing bet.
“Ana has said there is a tattoo ban on me - no more tattoos ever,” he said.
“She genuinely sat me down and said you can’t afford to keep making these bets and placing these random tattoos all over your body. So I have been spoken to, I have been given the hard talk.”
The Big Brother favourite, he was runner up in the 2020 series, said more reality TV was “not front of mind” at the moment, but was open to doing more if the right opportunity presented itself.
